Hoping for a bit of volunteerism from the CF boys this year. We recently added this bridge which will allow us to extend Jalopy Gulch considerably, adding trail from the fire pit up into the acreage behind the lake and then coming back down to cross over the dam and completing the loop up behind the cabin. Should nearly double the size of the trail making for some nice on-property mtb'ing. If you have any trailbuilding tools (rakes, shovels, gloves, etc.) please bring them. A couple of hours of volunteering by a bunch of guys and we can accomplish a lot! You'll be rewarded with beer and the sense of accomplishment every time you ride Jalopy Gulch for years to come!

CF'12 glasses
With around 18 mason jar mugs left over from CF'11, I've decided not to order CF'12 barware. This will cut down costs this year (more $ to spend on poker, right?) and utilize left over stock that's taking up space in my garage. If you've got a mug from a previous year (or any drinking vessel you're keen on) please bring it. If you forget, last year's mugs will be available fo' free. Thanks!

FY'12 dates
Dates for CF'12 are not yet defined but can't be the weekend between Father's Day and 4th of July due to a family trip that's already booked. Any suggestions for a date that would work (or not work?) Feel free to post here or on the Cabinfest APalooza Facebook page.

Counter
So, the counter on the bottom of this blog shows 12,146 views of this page. Wow - that's a bunch! So, I'm wondering... why are there so few posts or comments? Maybe I need to change settings so more people can post? If you are stopping by and checking in, post something would ya? Or maybe it's people are stopping by thinking this has to do with another "Cabinfest" and then leaving? I'd like to see some comments from them as well - maybe a "My cabinfest is better than your cabinfest"? Maybe a "Hey, we've got a cabinfest as well and you could make yours better like ours if you'd just...". At least then we'd know why our modest little cabinfest is getting 12k hits! By the way, "our cabinfest is better than yours". Just sayin'.

Help the tech-tarded
Hey Cabinfester! Not all of your Cabinfest friends are as tech-savvy as you. If you notice that one of your buds is not rsvp'ing on the evite site, the Facebook page or on this blogsite, chances are they are out of the loop. Call them up on their rotary home phone and let them know the CF'10 dates. It takes a village.

An idea for CF'10
For CF'10 I'm thinking about having the 2 days prior open to wives, kids, girlfriends, etc.
So that would be Tues and Wed for guests, then Thurs-Sunday for CF. Thoughts?

checking dates for '10
I'm thinking the weekend between Fathers Day and July 4th. It's worked the past 2 years and, while some won't be able to make it, it seems to be the best for the majority of CF attendees. Not sure I'll have the time or energy to grow CF this year and, honestly, I think last year is about as big as I want it to ever get. Quality, not quantity, eh? Check back here in a month or so for firm dates. cyl. - El Jefe de Cabinfest

2 weeks, baby!
Cabinfest only comes around once a year. It's fun because of the people that come and what they bring to the table. I have so many great memories of what we've done and the funny things that have been said over the years. So, hotshot, what are you bringing to the table this year? A fun new game, a cocktail recipe to share with the group (I'll be bringing the 2nd 1/2 of the Absinthe bottle from last year, lol), a campfire story that doesn't involve a Posche red camaro and some young hussy?
We're all so glad you're coming this year, but what are you bringing?

Keg beer for all!!!
In an effort to reduce trash and open up some additional cooler space for food , Cabinfest will be supplying beer this year. The plan is a keg each of Fat Tire and Coors Light (2 Colorado favorites). All attendees will be asked to chip in $10 or $15 (and a bag or 2 of ice). I think I've got a couple of pitchers - if you've got one laying around, it might come in handy so please bring yours as well.

New Belgium Brewery a possible Sponsor!
With a little luck we could be enjoying tasty beer from New Belgium Brewery. I have submitted an application for a sponsorship and now we wait. In the meantime, feel free to add a post about how much you love Fat Tire, Sunshine Wheat, Blue Paddle, etc. I can taste it now!

The Cat's Outta The Bag!
The current economic climate has many of us hovering somewhere between nervous and downright hurting. During times like these, some time away with the boys can be just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately that's not always possible. Not possible until CabinAide, that is!
A couple of months ago, a few of us started discussing a concept that would bring folks to our annual gathering that might be hesitant or unable to attend. The idea became reality and, after much deliberation and planning, it was recently announced that the first recipient of CabinAide will be none other than the legendary Tony Ginko. Tony had previously offered up his left nut to be a part of Cabinfest and that was deemed unnecessary. Tony will enjoy an all expense trip to Buffalo Creek, CO for CF'09! Congratulations Tony - we are all excited to have you there this year!
To all of you that helped make this happen, thanks for your efforts!

CF '09 is just 122 days away
The dates of June 25-28, 2009 are a lock for CF '09. It's the weekend between Father's Day and 4th of July. Details will get dialed in as we get closer. Some of the things that are on tap:
-Lobster/Seafood Boil on the 1st night. Crawdaddy Trapper - Is late June too early to pull out some mudbugs from Nottingham?
-A proposed All Water, Cabinfest Relay. There are now 2 kayaks to go along with the canoes and paddle boats. No one liked the uphill trudge to chug so festivities by the lake makes more sense. Batman and Matty K did such a fine job designing and organizing in '08 that they have been asked back to oversee this year's event.
-CabinAide (you'll have to wait and see on this).
-GoldenCabin goes in for engraving this week. Yes, Andy and Phil, there will be an asterisk
-Brad B. (builder of the bunk beds) is bringing tools for the first Cabinfest building project since Matt D's epic ladder effort in '06.
-There will be a select group of FNG's this year. Mums the word on initiation, wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean, hmm, hmm?! Those repeated no-shows will find themselves without an invite. (I'm sure an offering to the CF gods will put them back in good graces).
-A new moon and a high liklihood of above average meteor activity could make for some evening fun - along with more carnage on the midnight hikes! Don't forget your headlamp!
-More "Sit & Go" Texas Hold 'em tourneys. I really liked that format last year. Bring your Hamilton's and Jackson's.
If you've got some other bright ideas (Wiffle Ball; Flashlight Tag, Wine Tasting, etc., etc.) please post them here!

Plans for Cabinfest '09
Looking at the last weekend of June (6/26 - 6/28) for the '09 gathering. It falls between Father's Day and July 4th. Lemme know if this works for you. Obviously there is plenty of time to reconsider - will look to lock in a date in January.

Shrouded in Controversy
The 2008 relay was one we'll be talking about for years to come. In the finals, it was Matt K. and Dan N. vs. Philly P. and Andy I (Hey everbody - Have you met Andy Ioele?!!!). It appeared that Matt and Dan had the race locked when it was brought to their attention that one of their horseshoe throws was not a point. They bolted back down to rethrow while Phil and Andy got their chipshot on the deck, downed their beverages and claimed the victory. After some serious deliberation, race officials ruled that the race would need to be rerun. The "gondoliering" was eliminated and the beer chug was replaced with shots. The participants agreed to split the prize money but only 1 team could be declared victors. When the dust settled, Matt and Dan took top honors, while Phil and Andy had some cold hard cash for their efforts! Fun was had by all but the 2008 Cabinfest relay will always be remembered as "shrouded in controversy!"

Cabinfest Dictionary - Channeling Benway
"Channeling Benway" - verb - 1) To delay or avoid eating to enhance the effects of alcohol. "I'll eat that steak later - I'm channeling Benway". 2) To begin a story with everyone's attention only to run off topic and thoroughly confuse and annoy those listening. "Steve was telling a story about his first time but after a while it became obvious that he was just channeling Benway".
"Ask not what Cabinfest can do for you but what you can do for Cabinfest"
If we all bring something for the masses we can each spend a little less time packing/spending our hard earned cash, etc. Matt Dean (aka LotionMaster) has graciously offered up a keg of microbrew. Solid!!! Are you planning on bringing something, cooking a meal, serving up some apps or some fine wine, etc? Post it here on this blog so we all know not to bring what you'll be bringing. You really are a good guy aren't you?!

Tentative 2008 dates announced
I know, I know - I'm late this year! I'm hoping to firm up a date so we can all ink it and start looking forward to another fun Cabinfest. The likely weekend is July 18 - 20, 2008, however the following weekend could work as well. Please post some sort of comment (just click on "comments" below) so I know who has gotten this message.

The chipshot was their downfall
The 2007 Cabinfest relay was reformatted to 3 man teams. The 4 events remained the same and the competition was fierce! With a blazing fast time in the relays first 3 events, Lotionboy, FRB and Kozi were staring victory in the face. Unfortunately for them the chipshot onto the deck was their undoing. Wayward hacks over the cabin and under the deck burned valuable seconds and the Cinderalla team dropped to 2nd place. The winning team of LB3, Mr. Clean and El Jefe took the honors and have the "Golden Cabin" for their efforts.
